Turtleheads. The reason for this plant’s common name is obvious. Well, except for the color. I’d guess not many turtles are bright pink. They wouldn’t survive long in the pond if they stood out the way these flowers do!
The proper name for these attractive plants is Chelone. They require a moist site to do well, but otherwise are low maintenance and they spread politely. The foliage is a striking dark green, with serrated edges on the oblong leaves. I recommend them for semi-shady, moist areas.
